Grateful Dead farewell shows will stream via SiriusXM

Long before the internet existed, Deadheads traded tape bootlegs of their favorite concerts by the band—many of which were ripped from regional radio broadcasts when the hippie icons came through town. But the days of hearing the Grateful Dead on the radio aren’t over just yet. As the band’s Chicago “Fare Thee Well” dates draw nearer, SiriusXM has announced it will broadcast all three concerts, which take place July 3, 4, and 5, on its exclusively Grateful Dead channel.

“As generations of Dead fans eagerly anticipate these historic shows, we are thrilled that our subscribers who were not able to get tickets will still be able to experience this iconic band performing together one last time,” said SiriusXM Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein in a press release.

The shows will air at 9:15 p.m. Eastern Time on the nights of the performances, with rebroadcasts the next day and over Labor Day weekend. Subscribers will be able to stream the shows—which are also available on pay-per-view—via SiriusXM devices, the SiriusXM mobile app, and the satellite service’s site. David Gans and Gary Lambert, who host the channel’s Tales From the Golden Road talk show, will provide commentary before and after each show.

Earlier this week, the Dead announced a massive, 80-disc box set of live performances spanning their entire career.
