  • Jason Momoa — known for playing Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones and soon to be Aquaman in Warner Bros.’ cinematic superhero universe — is taking on another tough-guy role in Lin Oeding‘s action-thriller Braven. Written by Thomas Pa’a Sibbett and based on an original story by Mike Nilon, the film concerns a logger (Momoa) forced to defend himself and his family from drug runners along the U.S.-Canada border. Highland Film Group will shop Braven to international buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
  • In other pre-TIFF news, Gerard Butler of the Has Fallen franchise will star in the workplace drama The Headhunter’s Calling. Mark Williams is making his directorial debut on the film about a ruthless recruiter whose personal and professional priorities clash. Bill Dubuque (The Judge) wrote the script for the movie, which starts shooting in October. Voltage Pictures will introduce Calling to foreign buyers at Toronto, while CAA is handling domestic rights. Written and directed by Anne-Marie Hess, the film is the story of a wealthy eccentric (Burke) who offers to become the legal guardian of a teen from a troubled home (Hasson). Ward will play a self-centered bad boy. [The Wrap]
