The “circus tent” and “the madness” are roaring back with season 2 of The Knick. Ahead of the show’s return on Oct. 16, a new teaser has debuted online to preview a lot more of the ensuing debauchery.

”Things have changed, but the show must go on,” Clive Owen’s Dr. John Thackery says amid the ominous ticking of a clock. “I want to make history.”

By the looks of the footage, he will — at least in terms of drug use and back-alley medical procedures. Speaking of which, what is going on with the fiery burst that sets one physician’s head ablaze?

”The exciting thing is we can hit the ground running,” Owen teased to Vulture last year of the new season. “We’ve already done so much work in taking it to very interesting, unusual and dangerous places. It’s really exciting.”

Steven Soderbergh, who directed and shot every episode of season 1, has come back to the do the same for season 2. Owen is also joined by the likes of Andre Holland, Jeremy Bobb, Juliet Rylance, Eve Hewson, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, Cara Seymour, Eric Johnson, David Fierro, and Maya Kazan.
