The reception for this summer’s Fantastic Four reboot was decidedly less than fantastic, but writer-producer Simon Kinberg is still looking ahead to another installment.

Kinberg recently told MTV News he’s “really focused” on a potential follow-up and hopes the same cast will return.

“We’re figuring out what that movie would be,” he said at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting The Martian. “I’d like that to happen.”

Fantastic Four bowed to disappointing box office results after reports of behind-the-scenes drama and critical reviews came to a head just before its debut weekend. “I was obviously disappointed,” Kinberg said of the response. “I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know.”

Before its release, Kinberg defended the film in an interview with EW and said he wanted to keep making movies with its cast.

“I find Fantastic Four a hard book to adapt. I think the tone is very tricky it,” he admitted. “It’s deceptively simple. Figuring out the comedy and the drama and the powers themselves are hard to fit into a tone that is as grounded as we wanted to make it. But I’m happy with the way that it turned out. I really love this cast, and I want to keep making movies with them.”
