Can the real Steve Jobs please stand up? The mercurial Apple co-founder, who died in 2011, was a complicated genius who helped change the way the world lives and communicates. In Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs, which opens in select theaters today, Michael Fassbender delivers the charisma and callousness that helped make Jobs famous… and infamous.

But Fassbender isn’t the first actor to don the tech icon’s signature black turtleneck. Jobs has been the subject of several films, and though critics are currently raving about Fassbender, is his performance the best yet? Here, we rank the actors who’ve dared tackle the role of the man who didn’t believe in compromise or second place.

1. MICHAEL FASSBENDER Steve Jobs (2015)

Finding an A-lister to take on the Aaron Sorkin-scripted biopic wasn’t easy — last year’s Sony hack revealed that studio execs pursued Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, and Tom Cruise — but Fassbender’s tightly controlled and self-assured performance most closely mirrors the egotistical iMac creator’s personality. And while we’re the first to admit that the two men look nothing alike, we’d totally buy an iPad from Fassbender.
