Kurt Russell: Big Trouble in Little China remake should be for the 'right reasons'

Kurt Russell hopes Hollywood has a good reason for remaking Big Trouble in Little China. Dwayne Johnson is set to star in the upcoming remake, and the original star has a few thoughts on that front.

“I guess it’s that time now. Hey, you know, nothing sacred, why not? Go get it, good luck,” Russell told Collider in an interview. “I always think it’s interesting what’s gonna be done. Dwayne Johnson I don’t know what his take on it is gonna be, I don’t know what they’re gonna do. I always look at those movies when I see a remake and it’s like, ‘Ok… there’s gotta be a reason.’”

He continued, “In its way Big Trouble is definitely a cult film. So I don’t know what their reasons are for remaking the movie but I hope that they have the right reasons and I hope that they do it well and good luck, what can I say?”

Russell did Big Trouble in Little China with John Carpenter back in 1986. The actor starred as Jack Burton, am all-American trucker who’s lured into a centuries-old war in the mystical Chinatown underworld. Johnson succeeds Russell in the lead role for the film penned by X-Men: First Class’ Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz.
