Sherlock: The Abominable Bride trailer reveals the ghostly killer

“The stage is set” for the one-off Victorian special of Sherlock, subtitled The Abominable Bride, and fans can get up close with the ghostly killer in the new trailer.

The hour-and-a-half special relocates Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) to 1895, where they encounter a threat that defies their scientific reasoning. The wife of Thomas Ricoletti is seen walking about in her wedding gown after recently taken her own life, and she has a thirst for revenge.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride is written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss and is directed by Douglas Mackinnon. The special will air on PBS on Jan. 1 at 9 p.m. ET, in addition to receiving a limited theatrical release.
