Kevin James' Netflix movie casts Andy Garcia, Rob Riggle, more

  • Kevin James‘ Netflix comedy movie, True Memoirs of an International Assassin, has cast Andy Garcia, Rob Riggle, Maurice Compte (Narcos), Kelen Coleman (The McCarthy’s), Andrew Howard (Taken 3), Leonard Earl Howze (Memphis Beat), Yul Vazquez (The Lottery), and Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy). Zulay Henao (The Single Moms Club) was officially announced, but had already joined the film. The movie centers on an author who gets caught up in an international assassination plot after his fictional novel is published as a true story. Shooting wraps Feb. 12 in the Dominican Republic. It debuts on Netflix later this year.
  • NBA All-Star Kevin Durant will have his mother’s life story immortalized on Lifetime. The project is tentatively titled The Real MVP: The Wanda Pratt Story and stars Cassandra Freeman as Pratt (Inside Man), Tracie Thoms (Cold Case), Pauletta Washington (Wilma), Daniel Bellomy, Nic Few (Major Crimes), and Demarius Mack (Real Husbands Of Hollywood). The name is inspired by Durant’s 2014 MVP speech in which he called his mother “the real MVP.” Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere‘s company Flavor Unit are executive producing the TV movie, which is shooting in Vancouver.   • Mr. Robot actor Martin Wallstrom has landed a leading role in Ashes in the Snow, from director Marius Markevicius. It’s a cinematic adaptation of Ruta Sepetys‘ novel Between Shades of Gray, which depicts a Lithuanian teen named Lina (Bel Powley) trying to survive a Siberian work camp during World War II. Wallstrom plays a Soviet officer who befriends Lina and her mother. [The Hollywood Reporter]
  • Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent) will battle zombies in Office Uprising. The future star of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales faces a zombie breakout in the headquarters of a weapons company after employees are slipped a substance meant to make them work more efficiently.
