Jason Patric has been tapped to star in the second season of Fox’s Wayward Pines, EW has learned.

Based on the book series by Blake Crouch, Wayward Pines tells the story of the idyllic, but fenced-in mountain town of Wayward Pines. Initially unaware, the townsfolk come to discover they were actually frozen in time while humanity devolved into aberrations, and they are the last to survive.

The 10-episode second season picks up after the shocking events of the finale, with the residents of Wayward Pines battling against the iron-fisted rule of the First Generation (the children who were let in on the secret ahead of the adults).

Patric will play Dr. Theo Yedlin, a confident and driven surgeon whose leadership skills will prove invaluable to the residents of Wayward Pines. Awakened from suspended animation, Yedlin finds himself in the middle of this rebellion, as he tries to understand what Wayward Pines really is and help preserve the endangered human race.

“Jason is an incredibly grounded and believable actor,” said executive producer M. Night Shyamalan. “I’m so excited for audiences to see what he brings to the world of Wayward Pines.”

Patric, who is best-known for his roles in The Lost Boys, Sleepers, Rush and Narc, takes up the mantle as the male lead from Matt Dillon, whose character, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke, was killed in the first season.

Wayward Pines is expected to return this summer on Fox.
