Thor Ragnarok: Tessa Thompson, Creed star, joins Marvel movie cast

A new face has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

EW has learned that Tessa Thompson, who recently starred in Creed, has signed on for a major role in Thor: Ragnarok. Thompson joins Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo in the third installment of Thor, and while Thompson’s character details are scarce, Deadline reports that she may play Thor’s love interest and could appear in future Marvel films.

What We Do in the Shadows director Taika Waititi is helming the third Thor, with Tom Hiddleston and Jaimie Alexander set to return as Loki and Sif. Ruffalo will also make an appearance as Bruce Banner, and Cate Blanchett is in talks for an unspecified role.

In addition to Creed, Thompson broke out with roles in Selma and Dear White People, and she’s currently filming a lead role in HBO’s Westworld. She’ll also soon star in Alex Garland’s Annihilation with Natalie Portman, Gina Rodriguez, and Oscar Isaac.

Thor: Ragnarok is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
