Why worry about crowns when there's cake to be served?

Now there’s a cake fit for a queen.

Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrates her 90th birthday on Thursday, sliced her way through a three-tiered, gold and purple cake baked by Nadiya Hussain, the 2015 winner of The Great British Bake Off (or as it’s know in the U.S., The Great British Baking Show), the uplifting, earnest competition show about bakers devoted to perfecting their art.

The British Monarchy’s Twitter account captured the Queen in action, as the crowd sang “Happy Birthday”:

In an apperance on the British talk show Loose Women (video below), Hussain explained that she avoided cakes that would be hard to cut through, opting instead for an orange drizzle with orange curd, orange buttercream, and fondant. “I’m so nervous to even look at the oven right now,” she said. “I could have said no… I kind of went, ‘Yep, yep, I’m gonna do it. I can’t say no to the Queen, can I?'” No word on whether the Queen enjoyed the taste, but her smile after cutting is, well, sweet enough.
