Woody Allen, Jesse Eisenberg go Old Hollywood in Cafe Society trailer

Woody Allen and Jesse Eisenberg take on Hollywood’s Golden Age in the first trailer for Café Society.

Unveiled by Mars Films, the movie’s French distributor, the trailer finds Eisenberg doing his best Allen impression while portraying a young man trying to make it in 1930s Tinseltown.

Taken under the wing of his hotshot uncle (Steve Carell), Eisenberg’s Bobby gets a nightclub gig of dubious legality and tries to romance both his uncle’s assistant (Kristen Stewart) and a glamorous socialite (Blake Lively).

This being a Woody Allen movie, there are also droll observations — “Unrequited love kills more people in any year than tuberculosis,” one character says — and neurotic moments. One potential romantic encounter prompts Bobby to confess, “I’m so lonely I would have been happy just to talk, but now I’m even too tired for that.”

Café Society will make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 11 and hit U.S. theaters and Amazon’s streaming service later in the year. Watch the international trailer above.
