Brett Gelman is having a race conversation in Dinner in America

First Brett Gelman cooked up Dinner with Friends. Then he hosted Dinner with Family. Now he’s having Dinner in America. And this Dinner conversation is about to get extremely awkward.

The comedic actor that you’ve enjoyed on such shows as Love, Eagleheart, Mad Men, and Go On is hosting a half-hour special that will tackle the tricky topic of racism, presumably in all the wrong ways. With an assist from his old friend Lance Reddick, Gelman has invited Loretta Devine, Shareeka Epps, Joe Morton, and Mack Wilds to have an honest discussion about race, but “his motives are questioned and the guests refuse to respond in the way that he had hoped,” according to Adult Swim, which will air the special on Friday, July 1 at midnight ET/PT.

Dinner in America was created and written by Gelman and director Jason Woliner, who worked together on Eagleheart. The perfectly titled Dinner with Friends with Brett Gelman and Friends, which aired in 2014, included such guests as Gilbert Gottfried, Alison Pill, and Reddick, while 2015’s Dinner with Family with Brett Gelman and Brett Gelman’s Family featured Tony Roberts and Patti LuPone.
