Julianna Margulies is trading one wife for another.

A rep for the three-time Emmy winner confirms to EW that Margulies is joining the cast of Three Christs, where the Good Wife actress will star opposite Richard Gere.

The 1959-set drama, based on a true story, takes place at an Ypsilanti, Michigan mental hospital, where psychiatrist Milton Rokeach (Gere) performs a controversial experiment on three paranoid schizophrenic patients — portrayed by Peter Dinklage, Bradley Whitford, and Walton Goggins — each of whom believes he is Jesus Christ. Margulies plays Rokeach’s wife, who is also his former research assistant and secretary.

Per Deadline, which first reported the story, while she is supportive of her husband, with whom she has two young daughters, she is leery of his young and attractive female assistant and upset with how much he works. So she takes full advantage of her sexual charms to make sure he doesn’t stray.

Jon Avnet, in his first feature since 2008’s Righteous Kill starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, will direct and is writing the adaptation of Rokeach’s 1964 narrative case study, The Three Christs of Ypsilanti, along with Eric Nazarian. The movie starts shooting in New York in mid-July.
