The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent actor is in early negotiations to star in Dungeons and Dragons, Warner Bros’. fantasy film based on the enduring role-playing game of the same name, EW has confirmed.

Goosebumps helmer Rob Letterman is on board to direct the movie, which WB is developing with a franchise in mind. The project represents the second big-screen crack at the material, following New Line’s 2000 D&D film starring Justin Whalin and Jeremy Irons, a critical and box office flop.

The new movie was announced last August, after the resolution of a legal dispute over the D&D film rights. David Leslie Johnson (Wrath of the Titans, The Conjuring 2) wrote the screenplay.

Elgort is known for playing a gallant teenage cancer survivor in The Fault in Our Stars and a duplicitous scientist in the Divergent series. His upcoming films include Billionaire Boys Club and Baby Driver.

Deadline first reported the negotiations.
