Harry Potter and the Cursed Child set video debuts

Anticipation for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is painfully palpable as J.K. Rowling’s London stage production gets closer to its official debut at the end of the month. But before July 30, fans can get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the sets and actors through a new video tour with set designer Christine Jones.

“The craftsmanship here is so extraordinary. Seeing the painters, seeing the care that they put in making your designs into three-dimensional living, breathing worlds is so moving,” Jones says, recalling her favorite moments of working on Cursed Child.

The video features close-up shots of some of the set pieces, including a moving staircase, as well as director John Tiffany and movement director Steven Hoggett in action. Sam Clemmett (playing Harry and Ginny’s son Albus Severus) and Cherrelle Skeete (Ron and Hermione’s daughter Rose) can also be spotted rehearsing scenes.

“I was overwhelmed. I didn’t expect to get as emotional as I did. But I think we all have been working on this for over a year and just have so much invested in it,” Jones told Pottermore separately. “There’s just this feeling that we’re working with people we love, on something we love, for people we love. And there’s a lot of emotions that have become buried within the fabric on the making of this.”

Emma Watson, who portrayed Hermione in the Harry Potter films, praised the “beautiful” production and posted a photo of herself with Noma Dumezweni, who plays the character on stage. Star Wars actor Mark Hamill also complimented Cursed Child, tweeting it gave him “goosebumps.”
