Red alert! Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew are bombarded by a threat they’ve never seen before in the latest clip from Star Trek Beyond. Spoiler alert: it’s probably got something to do with that baddie we’ve heard so much about.

It’s a scene glimpsed in countless trailers for Beyond, but the new footage takes a peek inside the iconic starship just before impact. As the Enterprise approaches a new planet, Chekhov (played by the late Anton Yelchin) alerts the captain of an unknown foreign spacecraft that soon unleashes a hellish flurry at its target.

Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), John Cho (Sulu), Simon Pegg (Scotty), and Karl Urban (Bones) all return in the latest installment of the rebooted film saga. Kingsman star Sofia Boutella plays a new alien character (named after Jennifer Lawrence), while Idris Elba plays the source of this chaos, Krall.

“What’s interesting about him is that he has a real beef with what the Enterprise stands for,” Elba told EW of his role. “Krall’s a character who’s deeply steeped in hatred — in my opinion, a well-earned hatred — for the Federation.” The actor further called him “predatory. He’s not one for big speeches. He is one for going to get what he wants. If that means having to do it himself, outside of his army, he is not afraid to do that.”

Star Trek Beyond, directed by Justin Lin, will hit theaters on July 22.
