America's Got Talent: John Hetlinger, Drowning Pool performance wows Chicago Air Festival

John Hetlinger, the 82-year-old retired aerospace engineer, dropped jaws when he performed a hard rock cover of Drowning Pool’s “Bodies” on America’s Got Talent earlier this year. He did it again during the Chicago Air Festival on Friday, this time performing alongside Drowning Pool themselves.

Hetlinger, a.k.a. Metal Grandpa, joined singer Jasen Moreno, guitarist C.J. Pierce, bassist Steve Benton, and drummer Mike Luce during the band’s 2 p.m. set. “Are you ready?” he shouted, before leading the crowd in a chant of “Bodies! Bodies! Bodies!”

“This is what we want to see: Me and John and Drowning Pool,” Moreno said. “We want to see your fists up high, throw your horns up high, throw your fingers up high, and repeat after me and John.”

Hetlinger performed “Bodies” on a June episode of NBC’s talent competition show, after which Drowning Pool extended an invite to perform with them. “Shout out to the 82 year old dude that sang ‘Bodies’ on America’s Got Talent,” the band wrote on Instagram at the time. “You are welcome to join us on stage anytime.”
