Why The View isn't on this week — and when new episodes will return this summer

The ladies of The View are due for a well-deserved vacation after grappling with everything from Joe Biden's disastrous performance in the presidential debate and a plague of flies, to, of course, lightsaber attacks on Whoopi Goldberg.

Goldberg, the show's Oscar-winning moderator, and her cohosts — including Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin — are on a week-long break from the Hot Topics table. Beginning with Monday's episode, The View will air repeat broadcasts until July 8, when the cohosts are due back at their posts.

This week's episodes include previously aired interviews with Jeff Daniels (July 1); Tiffany Haddish (July 2); George Stephanopoulos and Robert De Niro (July 3, in an encore of De Niro's profanity-laden interview from earlier this year); Charlamagne Tha God (July 4); and First Lady Jill Biden and John Grisham (July 5).

When The View returns, new episodes are set to welcome guests like Jenn Tran and Governor Gretchen Whitmer (July 9), Michael Douglas (July 10), and Naturi Naughton (July 11).

In January, producer Brian Teta comically denied the cohosts' on-air request for an impromptu, mid-season vacation to enjoy time on a week-long cruise. There's no word yet on if the current summer vacation will include Behar careening down a giant waterslide in Baha Mar or calling an Italian woman a bitch on a European train.

Year to date, The View is the nation's most-watched daytime talk show, ranking No. 1 in total households and viewers among all daytime network and syndicated talk shows, according to a press release.

The View returns weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
