Led Zeppelin announce The Complete BBC Sessions

Led Zeppelin announced Tuesday that they plan to release The Complete BBC Sessions later this year. Slated to drop September 16, the three-CD collection is a reissue of 1997’s two-CD BBC Sessions, which compiled some of the band’s appearances on the BBC between 1969 and 1971. But this version also includes a third disc containing an elusive 1969 BBC performance that has never been released.

The original BBC Sessions featured recordings of Zeppelin playing classics from their first four albums like “Communication Breakdown” and “Heartbreaker,” as well as covers by Robert Johnson (“Travelling Riverside Blues”) and Eddie Cochran (“Somethin’ Else”). The additional disc included on The Complete BBC Sessions focuses on material from the band’s first two albums — released in 1969 — but stands out for containing the only recorded performance of the Zeppelin rarity “Sunshine Woman.”

Led Zeppelin began reissuing the entirety of their catalog in 2014. Like the recent deluxe versions of their studio albums, The Complete BBC Sessions comes in a variety of iterations, including vinyl, digital download, and a super deluxe boxed set that includes CDs, vinyl, digital downloads, and a 48-page book packed with photos, BBC memorabilia, and session information.

Last month, the iconic band won a court case that had alleged they plagiarized their signature song, “Stairway to Heaven.”
