Former costars Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are now married with their second child on the way — and James Corden has questions.

“When did [your relationship] move from the friend zone to the end zone?” the Late Late Show host asked point-blank on Monday.

Kunis started by explaining that she and Kutcher did similar movies — his No Strings Attached and her Friends With Benefits — and clearly didn’t pay attention to how they ended because their relationship started much like those of their characters’.

That answer wasn’t good enough for Corden. He wanted to know when, after years of knowing each other, that moment of attraction happened. “Was it like a haircut or something?” he probed.

“I was a kid when I started ’70s Show and everybody was much older. Like, Ashton did my chemistry homework for me — he was so not that guy that I was like, ‘Oh, he’s so hot,'” she explained.

In their 20s, they kept in touch on AOL Instant Messenger and had, as she called it, “a whole separate life.”

“I ran into him at an awards show, and at first, I was like, ‘Wow, that guy’s really tall.’ That’s what I thought. And then he turned around and I went, [gasps],” she revealed. “And then that moment that you hear or see in movies where like your heart skips a beat and it happened with Ashton, and I was like, ‘Stop it!’… It was the weirdest thing. I was like, ‘This isn’t really happening.'”

Kunis then explained how Kutcher was trying to set her up with a friend that night, but “that didn’t happen.”
