Sully trailer: Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood movie dives into true story

Many know the story of the “Miracle on the Hudson” as the moment when Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger landed an airplane safely in the Hudson River after it struck a flock of geese shortly after takeoff. With the new IMAX trailer for Sully, starring Tom Hanks, comes an exploration of the “untold story” on the behind-the-scenes turmoil.

“Until I read the script, I didn’t know the investigative board was trying to paint the picture that [Sully] had done the wrong thing,” director Clint Eastwood says. “They were kind of railroading him into [believing it was his] fault, and that wasn’t the case at all.”

Hanks helps bring this story to life as Sully opposite the likes of Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Anna Gunn, and Mike O’Mally. Beginning with the aircraft’s initial takeoff, the trailer cut together moments of the engines failing and the aircraft’s daring water landing.

“I’ve delivered a million passengers over 40 years,” says Sully, “but in the end I’m gonna be judged on 208 seconds.”

Sully will premiere in theaters on Sep. 9.
