Spike Lee casts Hamilton star in Netflix series

Spike Lee has cast Hamilton star Anthony Ramos as one of the male leads in his new Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It, a 10-episode update of his landmark 1986 directorial debut, EW has learned.

Ramos, who gained fame as John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Broadway sensation, will star as Mars, a character originally played by Lee himself. The series will focus on Nola Darling, a young, modern-day Brookynite struggling to balance the important things in her life (which includes everything from her job as an artist, to her friends, to her three different lovers). Ramos’ character Mars Blackmon will be one of her three suitors, alongisde Greer Childs and Jamie Overstreet, the same three boyfriends featured in the original film 30 years ago.

Lee will direct each half-hour episode and executive produce alongside his wife Tonya Lewis Lee.
