Marc Forster to direct Winnie the Pooh film Christopher Robin

Marc Forster is putting Christopher Robin back in touch with his inner child — and a fuzzy friend.

The World War Z and Finding Neverland filmmaker is set to direct Christopher Robin, Disney’s live-action movie about the boy from A.A. Milne’s beloved Winnie-the-Pooh stories, EW has confirmed.

Scripted by Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip, Queen of Earth), the new film centers on an adult Christopher Robin, who toils as a businessman and prioritizes work above his wife and daughter. Having lost his sense of wonder, he must find it again with the help of a silly old bear.

Forster previously dabbled in whimsical storytelling with Finding Neverland, which explores the life and inspirations of Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie, but he’s been known to hop between genres. Forster’s other directing credits include the dark melodrama Monster’s Ball, the absurdist comedy Stranger Than Fiction, and the James Bond thriller Quantum of Solace.

For Disney, Christopher Robin comes as the studio’s latest live-action project reimagining a popular animated film or franchise. Previous and upcoming examples include Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, and Aladdin.

Disney isn’t the only studio working on a Pooh-related film, however. Production recently started on Fox Searchlight’s untitled biopic about Milne, starring Domnhall Gleeson and Margot Robbie.
