Kendrick Lamar, SZA not performing nominated Black Panther song at Oscars

Kendrick Lamar and SZA will not be performing their Oscar-nominated Black Panther song “All the Stars” at Sunday’s Academy Awards, a representative for Lamar said on Thursday.

The representative did not add whether the song would be performed by any other artist, but Variety said it is the only Best Original Song nominee that will not be sung on the Oscars stage.

This is the latest blow to Oscars organizers in a year riddled with unexpected challenges, from going host-less for the first time in 30 years to attempting to relegate a handful of awards to commercial breaks to keep to a strict three-hour show, a decision the Academy was forced to reverse last week after an outcry from the film industry.

The other four Original Song contenders will be sung on stage on Sunday night – Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper will reunite to sing “Shallow” from A Star Is Born; Bette Midler will sing “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns; Jennifer Hudson will sing “I’ll Fight,” the Diane Warren-penned track from the documentary RBG; and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings will perform “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” from the Coen Brothers’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. It was also announced earlier this week that Adam Lambert and members of Queen will perform during the telecast.
