Chelsea Handler takes swipe at ex Jo Koy in Critics Choice Awards monologue: 'My writers wrote that'

Unlike the awards host newbie Koy, CCA vet Handler nailed her hosting duties for a second year in a row.

Chelsea Handler knows how hard it is hosting an awards show, the most thankless job for a comedian in Hollywood, but that didn't keep her from taking a friendly jab at fellow comedian/ex-boyfriend, Golden Globes host Jo Koy.

Handler was delivering a bit on lusting after older men, pointing out Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford.

“Unfortunately, Martin Scorsese isn’t here tonight, but that’s not gonna stop me from letting everyone in this room know that I would toss him around like a little Italian meatball,” she said to rousing laughter. “Thank you for laughing at that. My writers wrote it.”

Koy's monologue at the Globes was met with mixed reviews, though even he conceded that he made at least one big mistake while introducing the show.

After the majority of his jokes weren't landing with the stuffy crowd, Koy quipped that he only had 10 days to prepare for the gig, adding, "I wrote some of these and they're the ones you're laughing at."

"There’s a lot of greats that make rookie moves," Koy later told the Los Angeles Times, "and that was a rookie move. Those writers are dope, and that was not my intention at all. They were amazing, they had my back, and I need to make sure I fix that, and I will, I always will."
