Drew Barrymore says Robert De Niro gave her a helicopter ride home from the Everybody's Fine set

"You could've shot me up in a tin can with him and I’d be like, 'Yeah!'"

Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell are sharing their favorite memories from working with Robert De Niro on their 2009 film, Everybody’s Fine.

The actors, who starred as siblings in the family drama, had nothing but positive things to say about their fictional father while chatting on Wednesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, with Rockwell praising his "incredible" onscreen performance and Barrymore remembering how De Niro once gave her a ride home while shooting.

“One time, [De Niro] was leaving the set and he was like, ‘I’ve got a helicopter. Do you want to get a ride?’” Barrymore recalled.

“I didn’t get the helicopter!” Rockwell replied sullenly.

Flattered by De Niro's gesture, Barrymore attempted to keep her composure as best as she could. “Well, here’s how I responded: ‘Yeah, sure. Thanks. Are you sure?’” she said. “Here was me inside: ‘AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!’”

Barrymore's loud scream and internal meltdown over the offer lead Rockwell to ask, “Are you scared of helicopters?”

"No, I was just psyched to be in the sky with Robert De Niro in any vehicle whatsoever!” she exclaimed. "You could've shot me up in a tin can with him and I'd be like, 'Yeah!'"

Written and directed by Kirk Jones, Everybody’s Fine follows Frank Goode (De Niro), a recently widowed father who discovers that none of his children — played by Rockwell, Barrymore, and Kate Beckinsale — will be coming home for the holidays. Feeling disheartened by their cancellations, Frank sets out on a cross-country road trip to see them all.
