'Two and a Half Men' Emmy race

Sources have confirmed that CBS’ sitcom Two and a Half Men will not be submitted in the Outstanding Comedy category for the upcoming Emmy Awards, a decision made by producing studio Warner Bros. Television. That may not be that much of a shocking news bulletin, considering that star Charlie Sheen put the show through the ringer earlier this year, before he was fired and replaced by Ashton Kutcher.

The conventional wisdom is that the studio wanted to sit out an Emmy campaign for the show this year after all that has happened, and instead focus on putting its energies behind the other stars of the series. Jon Cryer, Holland Taylor, Angus T. Jones, and Conchata Ferrell all have a good chance for a nomination, based solely on sympathy from Hollywood voters who assume it was a painful year of working with Sheen.

The question is, however: Was this season of Two and a Half Men good enough for an Emmy nomination? The show has only garnered three Outstanding Comedy nominations in its eight seasons, the last in 2008, and only 16 episodes were produced this year. It has never been a critical darling, but does it deserve some love? Or would that just be pandering to Sheen? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
