Emmys 2015: Richard Jenkins wins Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series

Give it up for Richard Jenkins: The veteran actor won his first Emmy award, snatching up lead actor honors for a miniseries.

“That was Lady Gaga,” the 68-year-old said when accepting his award from the American Horror Story: Hotel star.

Jenkins starred in HBO’s four-episode run of Olive Kitteridge as the titular character’s caring husband, Henry, as Olive (France McDormand) battles depression and rocky relationships to those close to her.

Jenkins won out in a field that boasted Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody as Houdini, Ricky Gervais as a caretaker to the elderly in Derek: The Special, Timothy Hutton as a grieving father in American Crime, David Oyelowo as a reclusive veteran in Nightingale, and Mark Rylance as English reformist Thomas Cromwell in Wolf Hall.

Most known for playing the dead Six Feet Under patriarch, Jenkins’ only other award recognition from the Big Four came at the Oscars: a Best Actor nomination for The Visitor in 2009.

Olive Kitteridge earned nothing but grand acclaim from critics garnered 13 total Emmy nods, including Outstanding Limited Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series (McDormand).
