Tommy Wiseau pulled up to the Golden Globes in a limo with The Room posters

The critical success of The Disaster Artist has had a wide-ranging impact. It has proven James Franco’s skills not just as an actor but as a talented director, and it has popularized awareness of the iconic, so-bad-it’s-good film The Room. But most important of all, it means that The Room director and star Tommy Wiseau gets invited to awards shows now. In characteristically eccentric style, Wiseau pulled up to the Golden Globes on Sunday in a limo plastered with posters of The Room.

The Room has been out for more than 14 years; over that time, it has grown from a D-list flop into a beloved cult movie that regularly holds late-night screenings at movie theaters and college campuses across the country. Even so, Wiseau hasn’t stopped trying to get even more people to see it. Interviewed by Variety at the Golden Globes red carpet, Wiseau focused much more on promoting his own film than Franco’s biopic.

���I think it’s great. He can win,” Wiseau said of Franco’s Best Actor nomination, before returning to his favorite topic. “Everybody should see The Room. You guys should write more about The Room.”

Wiseau’s enigmatic aura has fueled the cult of The Room; nobody knows where he’s from or how old he is, and that’s part of the fun. Wiseau certainly isn’t interested in telling anyone the truth. When someone asked Wiseau on the red carpet where he’s from, Yahoo! journalist Kevin Polowy recorded Wiseau’s response: “Who cares?”
