The true stars of Grammys night turned out to be James Corden’s parents, Malcolm and Margaret. The host of The Late Late Show revealed a behind-the-scenes look of their time crashing the awards show, stocking up on free loot, meeting celebrities like Carrie Underwood and Jason Derulo on the red carpet, and playing saxophone with John Legend backstage.

The pair weren’t too familiar with some of the artists attending, like Sia (“Problem is you can’t see her”) and Ariel Rechsthaid (“Sounds like a medical procedure”).

Left to their own devices as James prepared to host the show, the Cordens had Keith Urban and Metallica sing songs for them in honor of their 45th wedding anniversary. They also danced with Morris Day and the Time before Malcolm surprised Anderson .Paak and Legend with his saxophone skills.

“I’m trying to join your band,” he told the “All of Me” singer.

On the red carpet, the Cordens got their shot at interviewing “people who we’ve never heard of,” like Desiigner, Elle King (who had just wonderful things to say about their son), and Skrillex (who didn’t know who was hosting). “I’ve had so many kisses today,” Margaret said, as they got pecks from members of Barry Gibbs, the Lukas Graham band, and Cage the Elephant.
