Howard Stern reacts to Paul Giamatti's Golden Globes shout-out: 'He made my job easy'

Years before winning acclaim for "The Holdovers," the actor made his breakthrough role in "Private Parts."

Years before he won a Golden Globe for his starring performance in The Holdovers, Paul Giamatti made his film breakthrough with a supporting role in Howard Stern's 1997 passion project, Private Parts.

Adapted from Stern's memoir of the same name, Giamatti made a memorable impression with his portrayal of Kenny "Pig Vomit" Rushton.

When asked in the Golden Globes media room on Sunday if he would ever consider working with Stern again, Giamatti said, "in a heartbeat. I owe that man everything."

Stern was just as kind when responding to Giamatti's comments during his radio show on Monday.

“Because I was new to film acting I didn’t even realize how good the guy was," Stern said. "When I would watch [our] scenes back, I went ’Oh my God, look what he’s doing there. He’s so in the character and he’s so good.’”

Stern continued, “he made my job easy.”

Robin Quivers, who like Stern played herself in Private Parts and continues to be his loyal co-host, agreed that Giamatti "was perfect" in the film. Although Stern currently has no film projects on the horizon, he seems just as enthused as Giamatti about the potential of another collaboration.

“He was just a wonderful moment in my life,” Stern said. “So, if I ever do another movie, boy I would want him in it.”

Giamatti may be an even hotter commodity soon, though. Following his Golden Globes win in the Comedy/Musical category, his performance in The Holdovers also earned a SAG Award nomination for Male Actor in a Leading Role on Wednesday.
