J. Smith-Cameron explains why she once threw a martini at Succession costar Kieran Culkin

"He was asking for it."

Now this sounds like the Succession outtake we desperately need.

J. Smith-Cameron, who played strait-laced exec Gerri Kellman on the Emmy-winning HBO drama, explained on Wednesday's episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers why she once threw a martini at her costar Kieran Culkin, who played family black sheep Roman Roy.

Apparently the two actors were out to dinner with their castmates after a table read, and the duo brought their characters' turbulent dynamic with them. "He was just riding me the whole time, like being horrid," Smith-Cameron recalled. "Like, if I couldn't hear something that was said that everyone was laughing about at the other end of the table and I’d be like, 'What'd he say? What'd he say?' [and] he'd be like, 'Oh, I'm sorry, dear. Did you forget your hearing aids?' Or, like, if I yawned, he'd be like, 'Is it past your bedtime? That's so terrible.'"

At one point, Smith-Cameron said, "I just threw my martini at him. He was asking for it." There's even photographic proof of the incident, as Meyers showed the audience a picture of the two actors standing side-by-side with Culkin's shirt visibly drenched.

Smith-Cameron and Culkin have never been shy about their playful rapport. She told EW in 2019 about how the two have known each other socially for many years, which made it easier to shoot some of their more "strange scenes" on Succession.

"There was a scene that we shot where Gerri and Roman are making coffees in a groovy, fancy, rich-people hospital," she said. "I remember feeling so relieved, because I knew Kieran. We had already developed a kind of bantering, playful relationship. So I think it just took its cue right away from that. Because right away we had a rapport on set."

Succession ended its highly acclaimed four-season run in May 2023. Watch the video above for more from Smith-Cameron.
