Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds congratulates Wonder Woman on bigger box office

The Merc With a Mouth is bowing down to Princess Diana of Themyscira.

After Wonder Woman passed Deadpool at the domestic box office over the weekend, the star of the latter film posted a characteristically irreverent message of congratulations Monday on Instagram.

“The Merc may be filthier, but her B.O. is stronger,” Ryan Reynolds said. “Congrats #WonderWoman.” The note (also tweeted by the movie’s official account) also included a photo of Deadpool’s gloved hands forming a heart shape around a Wonder Woman-inspired gold chain.

Directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman has grossed more than $368 million in North America, eclipsing Deadpool‘s haul of $363 million. In terms of worldwide box office, Deadpool still leads, $783 million to $746 million.

Since its release June 2, Wonder Woman has crossed several box office milestones. It’s the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman, the highest-grossing film domestically of Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe, and the second-highest-grossing DCEU film worldwide, behind only Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
