Marshall red carpet premiere canceled in wake of Las Vegas shooting

Open Road Films has canceled Monday’s red carpet premiere of the upcoming film Marshall in the wake of Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas, which left at least 58 confirmed dead and hundreds more reported injured.

“On this day of national mourning, we have decided to cancel tonight’s scheduled red carpet premiere of Marshall,” the studio said in a statement. “Instead, tonight’s event will be a private screening of the film for the cast, filmmakers and invited guests. Our thoughts are with the victims of the tragedy in Las Vegas, their families and all of those affected.”

Reginald Hudlin’s biographical film centers on one of the first cases in the career of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman). The film, which also stars Sterling K. Brown, Josh Gad, and Kate Hudson, had its world premiere at Howard University last month, screening to a positive response.

Marshall will be released in theaters on Oct. 13.
