The 'Night of the Living Dead' filmmaker died Sunday, July 16 at age 77 after a short battle with lung cancer. Credited as the godfather of the zombie genre, Romero, seen here in 1985 on the set of Day of the Dead, once told EW he didn't "use them to just create gore." What he did create was a style and fan base all his own. Ahead, his life and works in pictures.
