BTS, Madonna, Khalid, Billie Eilish, and more artists canceling shows over coronavirus

Khalid, BTS, Pearl Jam and other popular acts have canceled upcoming tour dates due to concerns over the coronavirus. With the infection spreading to more than 40 countries, the World Health Organization and medical experts have recommended social distancing, which means that packing yourself with thousands of others at a concert may not be the best idea.

So unfortunately for live music fans, it's best to stay away from large gatherings. Below is a list of artists and music festivals that have canceled or postponed upcoming dates over health concerns:

Harry Styles

After already rescheduling the North American dates of his upcoming tour, former One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles has postponed the European leg of his Love On Tour — his second major concert series as a solo artist — due to coronavirus concerns. The 26-year-old will now support his Fine Line album across his native continent throughout 2021. "Anyone who knows me, knows that performing has always been my favorite part of working in music," Styles tweeted. "However, during times like these, the safety and protection of touring crew, fans, and everyone else around the world is an immediate priority." In September, Styles also made the decision to postpone dates in South America, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. "I really hope to play the shows as planned for 2021 but will continue to monitor the situation over the coming weeks and months," he wrote on Twitter. "I can't wait to see you all on the road as soon as it's safe to do so."

Camila Cabello

Amid "difficult, uncertain times," Fifth Harmony breakout Camila Cabello has taken the "extreme" precaution of postponing her Romance tour in order to keep fans safe during the pandemic. "We can't start rehearsals without putting people at risk," she explained in a tweet, while also promising fans she's been working on new music and yet-to-be-announced, rescheduled tour dates to make up for disappointing her fans: "When the danger passes, all this love that we are putting into the world will heal us."

Khalid

Way back on Feb. 14, the crooner decided to postpone his Asia tour, originally scheduled for March 24-April 14. Khalid is slated to resume performances beginning June 12 in London.

BTS

The South Korean supergroup, who just released their new album Map of the Soul: 7, won't be performing for fans in their native country anytime soon. BTS announced Feb. 27 that they're canceling April concert dates in Seoul, noting that they were expecting more than 200,000 fans to attend.

Green Day

In February, the rock trio announced that they're delaying shows in Asia scheduled for March. "We know it sucks, as we were looking forward to seeing you all, but hold on to your tickets we'll be announcing the new dates very soon," Green Day tweeted.

Avril Lavigne

The Canadian singer has canceled the Asian dates of her Head Above Water World Tour, which was set to open in Shenzhen, China, on April 23, and wrap May 24 in Hong Kong. She had previously canceled a stop in Switzerland as well. Then in March, Lavigne announced her shows in Milan and Paris were also scrapped.

The National

The indie-rock outfit canceled their March 17 and 18 shows in Tokyo for "the interest of public safety." In a statement on Twitter, the band wrote, "We look forward to returning in the future and performing for our friends in Japan,"

New Order

The band revealed in February they'd be canceling shows in Tokyo and Osaka, although their scheduled stops in Australia on March 11, 14, and 15, are still planned to go forward.

Old Dominion

On March 7, the country band withdrew from Country 2 Country festival shows in five European cities. "We are forever grateful for every opportunity we get to witness just how far our music is reaching, and we will be back across the world as soon as we can," band members told fans on Instagram.

Madonna

After previously being rescheduled, the final two performances of Madonna's Madame X Tour on March 10 and 11 have been scrapped due to France's ban on events with over 1000 people.

Pearl Jam

The rockers announced March 9 that they're postponing the first leg of their North American tour. "As residents of the city of Seattle, we've been hit hard and have witnessed firsthand how quickly these disastrous situations can escalate," Pearl Jam wrote in a lengthy Twitter thread, which also criticized the government's response to the virus.

The members ended the thread by apologizing to fans, saying, "We are so sorry… And deeply upset.. If anyone out there feels the same based on this news, we share that emotion with you."

Pentatonix

On March 10, the popular a cappella group told fans they would be postponing the forthcoming European leg of their World Tour, adding "it is, simply, no longer possible for us to execute this tour the way we'd want to."

Zac Brown Band

On the same day as Pentatonix's announcement, Zac Brown Band similarly stated they would be postponing the spring 2020 leg of their Owl Tour. The country group also said they would try to make it up to fans with rescheduled dates to be revealed soon. The band's summer tour dates beginning in May are still going forward as planned.

Live Nation tours (including Billie Eilish and Cher)

On March 12, Live Nation said it would be postponing current touring arena shows (domestic and international) through the end of the month. While some shows will take place in the next few days, most concerts will be postponed. Tours affected by this change include Billie Eilish, Cher, Jason Aldean, Kiss, Post Malone, Tool, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Chris Stapleton.

Maluma

After canceling his Milan show, Maluma announced more drastic measures March 12. The Colombian artist said he would be postponing the remaining dates of his #1111 World Tour's European leg. The canceled shows in Amsterdam, Paris, London, Milan, and more will be rescheduled, with dates to be announced at a later time.

Dan + Shay

The country duo also took to social media to tell fans they would be postponing the spring leg of The (Arena) Tour. "These shows mean the world to us, and it was important that they be postponed and not canceled," Dan + Shay tweeted. "But more than the shows, our fans mean the world to us, and protecting their safety is the number one priority. We want the shows to be memorable, and not experienced with fear."

Dan + Shay are slated to resume performances July 30 in Tulsa, Okla. They also assured fans that previously purchased tickets will be honored at rescheduled dates.

My Chemical Romance

Also on March 12, My Chemical Romance tweeted that their Australian and New Zealand dates would be postponed. The news affects the band's two sets at Download Festival March 20 and 21 and one set in Auckland, New Zealand. It also came after MCR postponed shows in Japan.

The Who

The legendary rock band have postponed their U.K. and Ireland tour on March 12. It was slated to begin March 16 and wrap April 8. The dates will be rescheduled, and all tickets will be honored, according to the Who's statement. Singer Roger Daltrey assured fans that the shows will "definitely happen and it may be the last time we do a tour of this type, so keep those tickets, as the shows will be fantastic."

Steve Aoki

The remaining North American tour dates of Aoki's Neon Future IV: The Color of Noise Tour will be postponed until further notice, according to a news release. This begins with the March 13 show at Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. The dates are in the process of being rescheduled and more information will be provided as soon as possible. All tickets will remain valid for the new upcoming TBC dates.

Sturgill Simpson

Some shows on the spring leg of the country crooner's A Good Look'n Tour have been rescheduled for later in April and May, a rep for the tour announced. The new tour itinerary can be found on the singer's website. In addition to cancellations in Hampton, VA; Toronto, Ontario; and Philadelphia, PA, the April 3 date in Chicago, IL and the April 5 date in Minneapolis, MN are also cancelled due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts. Ticketholders for the cancelled shows will be contacted directly in the next few days.

Jonas Brothers

The group has canceled their Las Vegas residency at the Park MGM, the trio announced on Twitter. It was slated to run April 1-18. "We are so sad to disappoint you guys, but it's important for everyone to do what we can to keep everyone healthy," Nick, Kevin, and Joe wrote. Tickets to the show will be refunded at the original point of purchase, and fans are encouraged to reach out if they have any trouble.

Kelly Clarkson

The singer and talk show host has also postponed her planned residency in Las Vegas. "Out of concern and care for everyone's safety, we have chosen to postpone the April 1st opening of my Las Vegas residency, Invincible, until July," Clarkson wrote in a statement posted to her social media channels. "Details regarding ticket replacement are forthcoming and I can't wait to see you this summer." Her residency shows in July, August, and September are still proceeding as planned for now.

Elton John

The English icon made the decision to reschedule shows falling between March 26 through May 2, 2020 to 2021. "After serious consideration, it is with deep regret that Elton John will postpone a portion of upcoming North American dates on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour," reads a statement on John's official website. The May 22 through July 8 performances, however, remain as scheduled — for now. "This tough decision has been made with the safety and well-being of his fans put to the fore, at a time when health services are under increased pressure and with the concern that these gatherings risk accelerating the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19)," the statement continued.

Foo Fighters

The band postponed the dates on their upcoming Van Tour 2020. "Hi, this is Dave," reads a statement from frontman Dave Grohl shared on the group's Twitter account. "Remember me? The guy who wouldn't even postpone a show when my goddam leg was falling off? Well...playing a gig with a sock full of broken bones is one thing, but playing a show when YOUR health and safety is in jeopardy is another..." The statement goes on to explain that the second they're given the go-ahead, the show will go on. Gigs from April 12-20 have been rescheduled for dates in December, while other new dates are still to be announced.

Mandy Moore

The This Is Us star has postponed her current tour dates, she announced on Twitter. Moore's tour had scheduled dates across the U.S., running through the middle of May. On her tour website, the singer wrote, "We will be announcing the rescheduled dates as soon as possible, so hold on to your tickets as those will be honored for the new dates. Thank you for your thoughts, support and patience."

Vanessa Carlton

Carlton's Love Is An Art Tour has been postponed, according to a statement. Both the first and second legs of the tour will be rescheduled, and fans are being urged to hold on to their tickets, as they will be honored when new dates are set. "I will not put any of you in a position where you may become sick, so we must postpone our tour," Carlton said. "But, we are going to do all we can to reschedule these dates, and when we do, we'll bring you an epic show! Meanwhile wash your hands 9,000 times a day. Thank you for your understanding and your support — and be safe!" The singer's new album, Love Is An Art, is still being released on March 27.

The Rolling Stones

The legendary rockers have postponed their No Filter North American tour, which was due to kick off in San Diego on May 8 and end in Atlanta on July 9. All 15 shows on the tour have been delayed. "We're hugely disappointed to have to postpone the tour," the band said in a statement. "We are sorry to all the fans who were looking forward to it as much as we were, but the health and safety of everyone has to take priority. We will all get through this together – and we'll see you very soon." Ticketholders are advised to "hold onto their original tickets and await further information."

Brooks & Dunn

The country music duo announced that their Brooks & Dunn REBOOT 2020 Tour has been rescheduled for this fall, "as the duo prioritize the health and safety of fans, crew members and venues," according to a statement. The duo's first nationwide tour in 10 years will now kick off in Cincinnati on Aug. 28 and will go through the fall. Tickets purchased will be honored for the rescheduled date. Fans are advised to reach out to their point of purchase with any further inquiries.

Alicia Keys

The release of Keys' upcoming album A.L.I.C.I.A. has been postponed, as has her More Myself tour. The four-stop tour was supposed to kick off in Brooklyn, New York, on March 31 in support of her new book of the same name. It was slated to feature the Grammy winner sharing stories and music from the book. There is good news, however: More Myself, the book, is still releasing as planned on March 31. "Everyone's health and safety is the #1 priority! Thank u for ur deep love, I'll let u know about new dates soon. Stay powerful! I adore u," she wrote in a Twitter post announcing the news. The singer also has plans for a world tour in support of her new album, but no word yet whether any of those dates will be rescheduled.

Camila Cabello

The singer postponed her upcoming tour, which was set to begin May 26 in Norway and support her recent album Romance.

"With all the news constantly coming out and so much that is really unknown, we're also taking extreme precautions to protect ourselves, our team, our dancers, our band, our crew and ultimately you guys," Cabello wrote in an Instagram post March 24.

"I promise I'll see you and cuddle your faces off when it's safe and this all passes," she continued. Cabello ended her message by telling fans "when the danger passes, all this love that we are putting into the world will heal us."

The Eagles

The band announced via their website on March 26 that they have postponed the rest of their 2020 tour dates until the fall. The newly scheduled show will pick back up in Denver on Sept. 18 and 19 and end in Phoenix on Oct. 24 and 25. The tour will also include gigs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Paul, and Dallas. Tickets to the original shows will be honored for the rescheduled dates.

Justin Bieber

On April 1, Justin Bieber announced his 2020 Changes tour is postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. New dates for the 45-date stadium and arena tour that was set to kick off on May 14 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle have not been revealed. "While Justin — along with his band, dancers and crew — has been hard at work preparing an amazing show, he has always put the health and well-being of his fans first and foremost," reads a statement announcing the postponement. "Justin is anxiously awaiting the opportunity to get back out on the road and perform in a space that is safe for everyone. He asks that fans hold on to their tickets, as they will be honored as soon as the dates are rescheduled." Information on rescheduled dates will be follow soon.

Maroon 5

The Adam Levine-fronted band announced on Friday, May 15, that their 2020 concert tour would be postponed to summer 2021. The shows were initially set to kick off on May 30 and run to Sep. 17. No information was provided about refunds, but a press release stipulated that "all tickets for the tour will remain valid and will be honored once new dates are rescheduled." Levine said in a statement, "We want everyone to take care of themselves this summer and we really look forward to being back out with all our fans healthy and happy next year."

Festivals

Ultra Music Festival

The three-day electronic music festival, which was slated to take place March 20-22 in Miami, has been canceled. It's the first time in 21 years that the event will not be held. Flume, Gesaffelstein, Gryffin, Zedd, Sofi Tukker, and more were slated to perform.

SXSW

The popular film, music, and interactive festival was officially canceled by the city of Austin on March 6. The news came after several studios, performers, and tech companies announced their decisions to pull out from the annual festival. SXSW organizers said they will be "exploring options to reschedule the event and are working to provide a virtual SXSW online experience as soon as possible for 2020 participants, starting with SXSW EDU."

Coachella and Stagecoach

Promoter Goldenvoice announced March 10 that the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach country music festival had both been pushed back to October, moving from their scheduled dates in April. The statement did not reveal whether the new dates will alter Coachella's lineup, which is slated to feature headliners Frank Ocean, Rage Against the Machine, and Travis Scott.

Glastonbury Festival

The 2020 Glastonbury music festival, which would have kicked off on Wednesday, June 24 and run to Sunday, June 28, will no longer commence in the U.K. this year. "Clearly this was not a course of action we hoped to take for our 50th anniversary event," a statement, released on March 18, reads, "but following the new government measures announced this week — and in times of such unprecedented uncertainty — this is now our only viable option." Even if the coronavirus pandemic is squared away by June, organizers say they wouldn't be able "to spend the next three months with thousands of crew here on the farm, helping us with the enormous job of building the infrastructure and attractions needed to welcome more than 200,000 people to a temporary city in these fields." Ticket refunds will be available in the "coming days." Otherwise, ticket holders for the 2020 festival will automatically have their passes rolled over for admittance to the 2021 festival.

Governors Ball

The New York City music festival is no stranger to disruptions, given that heavy rain has cut past editions short. But this time, Governors Ball is canceling due to the coronavirus and looking to return in June 2021. Missy Elliott, Vampire Weekend, Fleetwood Mac, Solange, and more were set to headline the event at Randall's Island.

"These are crazy and unprecedented times, but New Yorkers are no strangers to challenges," organizers said in a statement. "As a city and a community, we will all get through this." The announcement also said customers will be able to get refunds or transfer their ticket to next year's festival.

Individual shows

Additionally, several individual shows have been postponed or canceled. Ari Lennox's planned March 3 performance at WWW X Tokyo was called off, as was Louis Tomlinson's Milan show March 11. Mariah Carey postponed her performance in Honolulu until November. And Queen and Adam Lambert, and Ciara all postponed their upcoming shows in Paris and Fort Hood, respectively.

On March 9, Miley Cyrus announced she will no longer be going to Australia for the Melbourne Bushfire Benefit Concert on March 13. The singer said she will "still be making a donation to help the victims of the Australian bush fire."
