The small-screen sequel to 2001’s Training Day has its first star: Bill Paxton.

Paxton will play the tough, veteran LAPD officer Frank Rourke. As previously reported, the CBS pilot will serve as a sequel to the Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke film of the same name, except in this iteration a veteran white cop will take on an African-American trainee by the name of Kyle Craig, who has yet to be cast.

“He lives by the law of the jungle and believes that real courage is the will to chase the bad guys where the law won’t,” reads Frank’s official character description. “Needless to say, Frank isn’t too keen to be babysitting a new trainee.”

Paxton has had roles in several major films such as Apollo 13, Titanic, and The Terminator, as well as finding success on television recent years for his Golden Globe-nominated role on Big Love and Emmy-nominated role on Hatfields & McCoys.
