Julia Louis-Dreyfus says 'F--k you!' to cancer with 'first post-op photo'

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has two words for breast cancer: “F–k you!”

“Hoorah! Great doctors, great results, feeling happy and ready to rock after surgery,” the Emmy-winning Veep star tweeted to her followers on Wednesday. “Hey cancer, ‘F–k you!’ Here’s my first post op photo.”

The actress revealed on Sept. 28 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, a revelation she used to shed light on the struggles of those without health care coverage. Dreyfus soon underwent chemotherapy — which she completed in January -— with the support of her family, friends, and Veep cast mates, while the HBO comedy went on a temporary hiatus.

Dreyfus will return to work this August when filming on Veep commences ahead of its planned 2019 return. But she looks as though she could return to work now.

“I would hide if I had an illness like that, but she’s very brave and also better for it because she’s helped other women and other women have supported her,” Veep‘s Matt Walsh told EW. “It’s a really unique, brave thing she’s doing just by being so out there with it.”

Dreyfus had not been present during this year’s SAG Awards in light of chemo, but she made history anyway. She became the first TV actress to win five individual trophies from the organization when she was awarded Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys told EW of Veep‘s next season, “They’ve got a big [season] planned. They pitched it out to us, it’s really funny. When Julia [Louis-Dreyfus] is ready to get back we’ll be shooting — I’m not sure what date we settled on — but we’re waiting for her to feel well enough to get back to it.”
