CNN sets Anthony Bourdain tributes for weekend programming

In response to the death of CNN’s Parts Unknown host Anthony Bourdain, the network has scheduled three nights of tributes into its weekend programming.

It begins tonight, June 8, with Remembering Anthony Bourdain, a CNN Special Tribute airing at 10 p.m. ET. This will be followed on Saturday, June 9 at 8 p.m. ET with “a night of Anthony’s favorite episodes of Parts Unknown.” Sunday, June 10 will then see the previously scheduled Berlin episode of Parts Unknown at 9 p.m. ET — only it will begin with an introduction by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. A repeat showing of Remembering Anthony Bourdain will then follow that night at 10 p.m. ET.

“We will be remembering our friend and colleague Anthony Bourdain this weekend by sharing his talent and stories,” a network announcement reads.

Bourdain died from an apparent suicide while on location in France for his Emmy- and Peabody-winning Parts Unknown, CNN confirmed Friday morning. He was 61.

“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,” a statement read. “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”

Many — including Bourdain’s colleagues at CNN, girlfriend Asia Argento, and fellow celebrity chefs — continue to mourn the loss.

“Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did,” Argento wrote on Twitter. “His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.”
