Backstreet Boys perform 'Everybody' as chickens with Jimmy Fallon

After watching the Backstreet Boys’ latest appearance on The Tonight Show, one question comes to mind: Why?

Why would you dress up as chickens? Why would you then perform an all-clucking version of “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” with Jimmy Fallon? Maybe the answer is simply, Why not?

In one of the most absurd promotional stunts in recent memory, AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell came out to promote their new album DNA dressed in yellow chicken suits. But then, after performing a throwback hit wherein each lyric changed to “buck” or “cluck,” they took their chicken costumes to the streets for a “Why did the chickens cross the road?” bit.

This wouldn’t be the first time they decided to play dress-up, but is there maybe some sort of chicken component to DNA? Like, is a song named after a chicken? Are they donating rotisserie chickens to the homeless? Is this a larger comment on humanity’s hubris?

Okay, maybe more than one question comes to mind.
