The Sinner season 3 in the works with Matt Bomer

And the new face for the next season of The Sinner is… Matt Bomer.

USA Network announced Wednesday that not only is the addictive detective drama coming back for season 3, it’s also coming with the Doom Patrol and Magic Mike star cast opposite Bill Pullman, who’s still the connecting thread across this series.

The story at the center of the third outing will see Detective Harry Ambrose (Pullman) starting a routine investigation into a car accident on the outskirts of Dorchester in upstate New York. Before long, he uncovers a hidden crime that pulls him into what has been dubbed “the most dangerous and disturbing case of his career.”

Bomer, currently playing Larry Trainor (a.k.a. Negative Man) on DC Universe’s Doom Patrol, will play the series regular role of Jamie, described as “an upstanding Dorchester resident and expectant father who looks to Ambrose for support in the wake of an accident.”

Following the breakout success of The Sinner in 2017, propelled by a starring performance from Jessica Biel, USA Network broadened the scope of the series. For season 2, The Leftovers‘ Carrie Coon was cast in a new case for Ambrose about the mysterious murder of a mother and father by their child.

Biel, as she did on seasons 1 and 2, returns for season 3 as an executive producer. Derek Simonds also makes a comeback as showrunner, while Michelle Purple, Charlie Gogolak, Willie Reale, and Adam Bernstein executive produce.

Bernstein, known for his work on shows like Fargo and Breaking Bad, will direct the first two episodes.
