NL 2021

Last week I met up with a friend for a picnic at Drum Manor forest park, Cookstown. We had a lovely walk and came across this very unusual pine tree.... If anyone has an ID, I'd love to know :) - ok, so it's a Korean Fir :)

It was absolutely covered in the most amazing blue pine cones all standing upright like little blue soldiers :)

Well, we're half way through another week, hope you're all doing well, how's your weather? looks like we're in for rain today :(

Blue Tufa - Tufa on Mono Lake, Mammouth Lakes, CA, USA - Copyright 2015 Martyn Phillips, M4Photo.

Tufa is a variety of limestone, formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals from ambient temperature water bodies.

This is one of my favourite images from my Californian road trip. Mono Lake is a wonderful place where the lake is serene and the scene appears to change by the day. One this particular day, the sky turned a wonderful blue and I opted for a long exposure taking in an outcrop of the Tufa rock that protrudes out into the caustic lake from one of the small bays.

There is something magical about this place and I hope that I have captured some of that magic in this image with the smoothed water and reflections of the rock and clouds in the water.

Blue Pimpernel grows among weeds and on the edges of cultivation. These flowers open between 8 a.m and 3 p.m but remain closed during humid and wet weather.
