I exported my NetNewsWire 4 feeds to OPML and then imported it into NNW 5. I had multiple levels of folders in it, and they all became top-level folders. Some of the subfolders had the same name, but were under different parent folders, and they all got merged together. Poking around at it, I don't see a way to create subfolders, and trying to drag and drop a folder doesn't seem to work either.

Came across the same problem. Thanks for requesting, @justdave.

I too find Nested Folders the single, most urgent improvement for NNW 5.0.3 (albeit, I agree, it has more to do with ease-of-use; it will not be a rather technical, under-the-bonnet, «serious» improvement in programmers' eyes.)
I wonder, how many people have to ask this feature, to be considered for a next milestone.

According to a September 2018 blog post from Mr Simmons this feature was intentionally left out.

I too missed subfolders upon importing feeds from NNW4 and would welcome their addition. I'm not sure I'll make the move until the feature is added.

So sad that feature is still missing 😢
No macOS client support this.

FWIW when I did my final migration from NNW 4 to NNW 5, I renamed all of the subfolders to be prefixed with the names of their parent folders prior to exporting. They still show up as parallel folders instead of nested, but now they don't get merged together, and they sort next to their intended parent. Just makes the folder names get ridiculously long in a few cases.

I think the managing developers of NetNewsWire should mark this CLOSED and refer to this issue ( #503 ) and this blog post https://inessential.com/2018/09/09/why_netnewswire_doesnt_support_nested_fo when other users may open future issues (such as #4037 )

I don't think the request should be closed until folders actually act like tags, which is what the blog post is suggesting. A tag system means that an item can have multiple tags.

I would really appreciate sub folders and if that is not possible, a proper tag system where you can select single or multiple tags to quickly filter content.
