At that moment, the humans strike and end up killing the X-Men, much to Wolverine's despair. He goes in a fit of rage killing everyone in sight including the good guys. The term "massacre" refers to an event of killing people who are not engaged in hostilities or are defenseless (the X-Men aren't defenseless) as well as an indiscriminate and brutal slaughter of people (the X-Men/mutants were killed discriminately, on the basis of them being mutants).
