Before the Frost Giants can leave the vault they are stopped by the Destroyer. Wanting to teach the Frost Giants a lesson, Thor and his friends travel to Jotunheim and get into a fight. Once they get back to Asgard, Odin is so angered by Thor's actions, he takes away his powers and casts him out of Asgard. Sending his hammer MjĂžlnir shortly after him, with a spell that whoever is worthy to hold the hammer shall posses the powers of Thor.
Meanwhile, at Puente Antiguo, Jane Foster, Darcy Lewis and Erik Selvig have picked up strange readings on their instruments and are tracing the signals. When they get close to the signals they hit Thor with their car and after tasering him they bring him to the hospital. Fifty miles west of the hospital, the hammer lies in a crater and has been located by Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. who calls it in. At this time, Thor his brother Loki discovers he is actually a Frost Giant, Odin explains he found him abandoned as a child in the aftermath of the war with the Frost Giants. With the angered Loki and the events of the last few days Odin falls in the Odinsleep.
Thor who escaped from the hospital goes after his hammer, later joined by Jane who wants to get her research back taken by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. When they arrive at the crater, they see S.H.I.E.L.D. has build an encampment surrounding the hammer. While Jane stays behind, Thor breaches the site and goes after his hammer but is unable to lift it and gets taken in by agents afterwords.

With Odin sleeping and Thor his banishment, Loki has taken the throne. Despite his ruling not to search for Thor, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three travel to earth and find Thor. Angered by their treason, Loki sends the Destroyer after them.
Lady Sif and the Warriors Three try to defeat the Destroyer to protect the village but are forced to fall back. Thor then walks to the Destroyer while asking Loki to end all of this and take his life instead. The Destroyer then hits him, leaving Thor to die if not for the spell that Odin put on MjĂžlnir. By Thor latest actions, he is now deemed worthy and MjĂžlnir flies back to him and returns his power. The Destroyer comes back for him but Thor is able to defeat it and goes back to Asgard.
On Asgard, Loki has welcomed Laufey, the king of the Frost Giants, giving him the opportunity to kill Odin in his sleep, only to kill Laufey right before the act, hoping to look like a hero. After Laufey is killed, Thor shows up and tells Frigga about Loki's betrayal, however Loki continues with his plan and attempts to unleash the full power of the Bifrost and destroy Jotunheim. To stop this, Thor has to break the Bifrost Bridge with his hammer, knowing he might never see Jane again, which he has fallen in love with.
