The wall

The brick wall is the main hangout place for the characters in the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz and its adaptations to other media. It is a short brick wall which the children lean against to talk to each other. Its first appearance is in the strip from December 25, 1950.

The wall became the children's main discussion place in the early days of the strip. Originally, their meeting place was right next to a street curb. However, Schulz worried this might not be a good place for children to hang out, and it could give young readers bad ideas. Schulz tried a few other places for the characters to hang out, and eventually, in 1953, chose to place them behind the safety of a secure wall.

Many characters have appeared by the wall, most commonly Charlie Brown, Linus, and Lucy. However many more, such as Shermy, Schroeder, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Snoopy, "Pig-Pen", Sally, Rerun and Franklin have appeared behind the wall also.

There is never any mention of the brick wall, even when the characters are leaning against it. Also, unlike most objects in Peanuts, such as, Lucy's psychiatry booth and Spike's cactus, the wall serves no other purpose than just being a place for the characters to hang out and talk.
