Alyssa is a creative and passionate writer whose work has appeared in several digital publications, such as InStyle, Shape, Southern Living, Real Simple, and Food & Wine. She began her foray into the world of e-commerce writing during her time at Iowa State University, where she joined the team as an apprentice in 2021. Alyssa’s educational background is in fashion communications, design, and journalism, and she took on several internships during her undergraduate studies in the realm of editorial fashion and beauty writing and social media. 

She officially joined the PEOPLE shopping team as a staff writer in May 2022 with a keen focus on fashion and beauty, from red carpet coverage to in-depth product reviews and launches, as well as celebrity interviews with stars like Sarah Jessica Parker. Alyssa can frequently be found testing products at home, in her daily life, and in the PEOPLE Tested lab, with her favorites including ultra-pigmented eyeshadow palettes, Dyson hair tools, workout sets, graphic eyeliners, and any sort of a lip combo (liners, lipsticks, plumping glosses — you name it).

Alyssa is a self-taught makeup artist and uses her knowledge of editorial beauty to enhance her work at PEOPLE. She has a network of celebrity makeup artists that she taps weekly to inform her content; most notably, she has interviewed Dame Pat McGrath and Hollywood set makeup artist Heba Thorisdottir. Alyssa is also constantly tapped into the latest celebrity fashion trends, having covered red carpet events and trend reports with the help of her wardrobe stylist Rolodex (she knew rosettes would be huge in 2023 before others were covering).
