Actress Ione Skye, star of the 1989 hit film Say Anything, chose a distant and colorful setting to exchange vows with Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee: they were wed in a traditional Hindu ceremony in India on Dec. 29

About 50 of the couple s friends and family members, including Josh Radnor from How I Met Your Mother and Skye s older brother, Donovan Leitch, witnessed the ceremony in the village of Malaikodi, near Chennai (formerly known as Madras) on the Bay of Bengal, the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph reports.

The two-hour ceremony was presided over by Lee s spiritual guru, Sakthi Narayani Amma. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at a nearby guest house with Lee s friends the Kahn Brothers performing as the wedding band. Lee, 30, and Skye, 37, then gathered the entire wedding party to visit an orphanage and performed for the children there.

The couple plan another ceremony in Los Angeles to legalize their union, since the Indian nuptials were not recognized at home in California.

“We have to go to City Hall tomorrow, and I m mildly resentful about it,” Lee told the newspaper. “You go through a huge experience on an emotional and spiritual level, then you have to go and do the paperwork.”

The marriage is the first for Lee, who split with Claire Danes in 2003, and the second for Skye, who was previously married to the Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz. Skye has a daughter, Kate, with ex-boyfriend designer David Netto.
