After a couple of failed marriages under her belt, Carmen Electra feels comfortable dishing out a smart suggestion.

“My advice to anyone is to not get married in Vegas,” she tells PEOPLE. “Do not get married at the drive-thru in Vegas, especially. Take your time – enjoy it!”

Electra, 36, adds: “It’s important to think out marriage in general because it’s a huge commitment. Besides that, I hate to say it, but it’s a lot of paperwork and a lot of emotions. It can be difficult.”

Electra knows all about the quickie Vegas wedding – she married former NBA All-Star Dennis Rodman in 1998 and filed for an annulment just nine days later.

Now Electra, who also was once hitched to rocker Dave Navarro, is engaged to former Korn guitarist Rob Patterson, 38. But they have no plans to marry anytime soon.

In fact, they’ve done no wedding planning whatsoever.

“There’s no pressure,” says Electra, who hosted a New Year’s Eve party at Tao Las Vegas. “I’ve learned that you have to be yourself and go at your own pace.”
